We “raccoons” (aka trash pandas) have a bond that transcends the boundaries of the mortal realms. We also know an opportunity when we see it (seriously, you need a better lid for your garbage can Mr. Phillips). So the moment Clydewell “Jimothy” Montgomery III attained internet stardom this past week, the rest of us already knew. It was without hesitation that we at Trash Panda Disco reached out to Jimothy’s agent (big thanks to Crackers The Alleycat) and set up an interview where we, naturally, talked about their favorite tracks from the years 2006 – 2012
TPD: Hi Clyde, or should we say, Jimothy, thanks for sitting down with us.
JIMOTHY: Ah yes, the honor of being “named” by the humans. It was foretold once by my grandfather that this would happen.

TPD: Not only are you known for your advocacy for differently abled trash pandas but you’re also a lauded musical taste maker. It’s said you were instrumental in the proliferation of the genre of “drift phonk”
JIMOTHY: It was during a tour of duty in Moscow during the clawing times that I inadvertently introduced the local population to the Memphis based hip hop genre only for it evolve into the more techno/house based style we know of today.

Service – Elements of Danger (MSTRKRFT Remix)
I remember being at Dim Mak Tuesdays in LA (before they were cool) when Steven Aoki first laid down this banger. Sure the original indie track was a quirky weird trip, but the MSTRKRFT remix, with it’s oscillating cowbell and resampled guitar riff-esque synths was something else entirely. The screaming lyrics of Services’ front singer, a human now lost to time, about things like “danger” and “daggers in ones hand” added an… element… of excitement to the song. Fits into any set regardless of style, even minimal techno. Then again, anything fits into minimal techno.

Jupiter One – Countdown (Designer Drugs Master Extended)
New York rock band Jupiter One released Countdown back in 2007, the poppy, upbeat indie track was already a danceable number, but fellow Chicago come New York producer, Designer Drugs, decided to turn it into something absolutely face melting. My buddy Chuckhurst “Goblina” Farnswerth (RIP) first introduced me to the track when we were playing tunes in his Greenpoint apartment (back when that deli that named their sandwiches after people was still around). We were already dosed on acid so this track just took it to the next level. The next day I was at Luxx in Williamsburg when the DJ threw down this banger, I used it as a reason to make out with this other raccoon I had had eyes on. We still talk on occasion.

Shiny Toy Guns – Don’t Cry Out
Shiny Toy Guns, where do we begin. My ex got us kicked out of a The Metro during one of their Chicago shows because they went too hard in the mosh pit. This band really curated that perfect mix of party raging, angry raging and sad… raging. Le Disko still holds up but Don’t Cry Out is really where they locked in on that first album. We ended up following them to some venue in Des Moines for the next show and that time we got kicked out for trying to have a threesome in the bathroom. What a killer night.
